Meet Roasted Bean Co.
It’s no secret that the team at Roasted Bean Co. loves coffee. A lot. Being located in Brighton, where more cups of coffee are drunk per person than in any other city in the UK, it makes sense.
The company’s principle is simple.
Look high and low for the:-
- highest quality
- most tasty
- quirkiest
green coffee beans in the world.
Roasting in small lots on a regular basis. You will always get fresh, excellent coffee whether you are at home, or giving a coffee gift.
The Roasted Bean Co. supplies wholesale coffee nationwide.
We feature their roasts during the year.
Roasted Bean Co.’s Ethical Approach
We only ever have 100% Arabica beans only, never Robusta, and here’s why:
Arabica grows in cool subtropical climates (600-2000m). The delicate plant requires rich, fertile soil, moisture, and shade. Pest attacks, cold exposure, and poor handling make them vulnerable. They taste unique and delicious.
The Robusta plant is hardy. These plants grow at low altitudes (200-800m). Due to their high caffeine concentration, are less susceptible to pests. They also yield more pounds of finished product per acre at a lower cost.
All our coffee is always fresh. Always at its best, and the best part is that you can trace every coffee right back to the farmer with Roasted Bean.
During March we featured
Mexico Chiapas Turquesa – A Gem of a Decaf
Turquesa, or turquoise, is the name of the precious stone. The colour of which spreads across the extraordinary waters of Chiapas.
The coffee is grown by smallholder producers. They deliver it to the San Cristóbal de las Casas and Yajalón buying stations. All located in northern Chiapas, to the east and northeast of Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
Chiapas has for decades struggled with political and ethnic conflicts. The Zapatista movement prevented any large coffee farms from coming into existence. They made demands for indigenous rights and land access. Resulting in coffee cultivated by smallholders. Many of them are descendants of indigenous tribes.
They cultivate, harvest, and prepare the coffee by hand. Sparing no effort to produce a product they can be proud of.
The Mountain Water Process for Decaffeination
The Mountain Water Process (MWP) is an indirect decaffeination method.
MWP decafs start from Descamex. Using water sourced from the top of Mexico’s highest mountain, Pico de Orizaba.
Before steaming the beans they determine the optimal conditions ready for extraction. Using a water-based solution, to keep the coffee’s flavour intact.
Mexico Chiapas Turquesa Flavour Profile
This medium-bodied decaf had a sweet, nutty flavour. With a hint of grape and a scrumptious milk chocolate aroma.
With altitudes between 900 and 1,100 meters. Enabling the coffee-growing region to produce large beans. It offers a smooth, balanced cup – a perfect morning brew.
