#1 Always Use Fresh Coffee
You can make all the coffee in the world you want, but until you have use freshly roasted coffee, you don’t know what you are missing out on.

Do not shop for coffee in bulk from the supermarket or grocery store. You have no idea how long that coffee has been on the shelf.
Buy coffee that has a date stamp on it. This will ensure you get the freshest coffee out there.
#2 Know Where Your Coffee Comes From
One thing about supermarket coffee is that you have no idea where it comes from.
The best thing is by purchasing coffee that is fair trade coffee. It can be traced back to the original origin and coffee plantation letting you know exactly where your coffee came from.
You can go from farm, to cherry, to processing and roasting — and follow the journey along the way.
#3 Choose the Right Grind
For every type of brewing method out there, you need to make sure you are choosing the right grind.
If you are not sure, have your local roaster grind your coffee for you. But — if you have a burr grinder at home, just search for your brewing method to choose the right grind.
For the Cafetiere, you need to be grinding your beans to a course even grind. You need to start with a 1:12 coffee-to-water ratio. If you’re using 350 grams of water, you’ll want 30 grams of coffee.
#4 Should You Choose Arabica or Robusta?
If possible, stick to 100% Arabica beans. Robusta beans are the cheaper alternative to the Arabica beans.
These beans have high levels of caffeine and harsh flavour. Instead, go with Arabica. They have a more mellow flavour and pair well with fruit flavours in your coffee.
#5 Choose Really Good Water
Nothing can spoil a great cup of coffee like tap water that contains off-flavours or high levels of chlorine.
To make a really good cup of coffee, be sure to install an activated charcoal/carbon filter installed on your faucet so that you can remove the chemicals from your tap water. If you do not have that option, you can use bottled water from the store.
Distilled or softened water is not good for coffee. In other words, it makes a terrible French press coffee. For the best cup of coffee, minerals found in good water are essential for enhancing the flavour of the coffee.

You have to make sure to keep your Cafetiere clean because that is essential to making good coffee.
